Drapery - one detail in detecting modern fakes
 
 
Recently we had a discussion on Moneta-L  about fakes and someone asked how one can be sure about the signs of fakes as there are so many with an excellent look. 
There were several good mails from the more experienced listmembers with lots of detailed information on this subjekt. 
There was one aspect Kevin Barry pointed to - the drapery -  he wrote: 

"...one of the hardest areas for forgers to get right is drapery. As any beginning art student can tell you it is very difficult to get cloth to fall just right when trying to capture it on paper or canvas. 
The Romans (and most certainly Greeks) were masters at catching the subtle way cloth falls over the human body. And it seems that many forgers are unable to capture drapery in quite the same way, often resorting to an exagerated style..." 

 And I took a closer look on some of my coins and on some modern fakes. One  (one? I hope so!) of the shown drapery is from the hand of a forger. If you like you can examine yourself ...
